The Whitaker Center for STEM Education presents Exploring the Legacy of Rachel Carson 50 years after the publication of SILENT SPRING

Film and Lecture Series Evening - Sept. 24-27

Lecture and Ask the Experts Forum - Saturday Sept. 29  1-6pm

Thursday, September 27, 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Rachel Carson's book "Silent Spring".

The publication of this book is one of the most important documents in science and environmental advocacy.  This book began Rachel Carson’s recognition as the mother of the modern environmental movement spawning legislation such as the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Wilderness Act, and Endangered Species Act. Her book also led to formation of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1970.  Florida Gulf Coast University community is commemorating this milestone by offering a film and lecture Series to both FGCU students and the surrounding community.
